What?: A meeting held by France, Britain, Italy and Germany to decide the fate of Czechoslovakia.The Munich Conference - Global History 2

Where?: Munich, Germany

When?: 1938

Who?: Hitler (Germany), Mussolini (Mussolini), Daldier (France) and Chamberlain (Britain)

Why?: Hitler wanted control of the Sudetenland an area of Czechoslovakia with a large German population.

How?: The Western democracies chose to negotiate with Hitler rather than fight hoping that he would be satisfied and not want more territory.

Results:
1) The allies attempted to appease Hitler.
2) Czechoslovakia ceased to exist as an independent state.
3) One year later Hitler demanded territory from Poland. When Britain and France refused to appease Hitler again, World War II began.
