What?: A meeting held by the leaders of the Allied Powers to end World War II

Who?:
Stalin (USSR), Truman (USA) and Atlee (UK-Churchill lost his bid for re-election during the conference)
Why?:
To end World War II, to decide the future of the wartime alliance, to establish a post war balance of power and decide how to divide Germany.
How?: The leaders of the allied powers met in Potsdam to negotiate the issues at hand.
Results:
1)Germany was divided into four sections, each governed by the major allied powers (Britain, France, the U.S. and the U.S.S.R.)
2)The United Nations was established to maintain peace and protect natural rights.
3) The Nuremberg War Crimes Trials were established to punish those guilty of war crimes (genocide)
4)The Soviet Union took control over Eastern Europe as a sphere of influence to protect against future invasion from the West.
