1) Peron appealed to Argentine nationalism.
2) Appealed to the working class
3) Authoritarian government (limited civil liberties)
4) Peron's wife Eva, a former movie star, was very popular with the people.
5) Nationalization of the Industries; Peron took control of foreign owned businesses in Argentina.
Why?: Peron was unpopular with the military and the U.S. because his policies caused debt, inflation and supported the poor at the expense of the rich.
Results:
1) Led to a succession of military dictators in Argentina, each offering less and less in the way of human rights.
2) "Brain Drain" as Argentina's educated upper classes left the country
3) Subsequent military governments stayed close to the U.S. in Cold War politics.
