Where?: Located across Sea of Japan from China and Korea off of the eastern coast of Asia.
Who?: The Japanese islands are inhabited by a largely homogeneous population meaning that the overwhelming majority of people living in Japan are ethnically Japanese.
Historical Importance: After acquiring much of its culture though diffusion from China, Japan isolated itself from international trade and contact for close to five hundred years. Becoming modern in the late 1800’s Japan transformed itself into a world military and economic power .
Geograpghy:
1) Located aside the shipping routes of Asia, Japan had a similar geographicJapan - Global History 2 situation to Britain in Europe.
2) Made up of four main islands, Japan’s territory is covered with large mountains.
3) Japan does not have the resources necessary for industrialization
Important Japanese in History:Emperors Meiji andTokagawa. General Tojo.
