Congress of Vienna
What?: A peace conference held at the conclusion (end) of the Napoleonic Wars.
Where?:Vienna(The Capital of the Austro-Hungarian Empire)
When?: 1815
Who?: The leaders of ALL the warring nations, INCLUDING the defeated France.
Why?: To create a lasting peace for Europe through a balance of power.
Results:
1) The Kings were restored (put back) to power in Europe.
2) The leaders tried to make sure the nations of Europe were equal in strength (balance of power)
3) There are no MAJOR wars in Europe for 100 years
4) A very conservative event because the delegates tried “push back” the clock taking rights and power away from the people and giving it back to the Kings and Aristocracy.
