What?: The United States drops an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima.

When?: 1945
How?: An atomic bomb creates a nuclear reaction releasing heat destroying all within its blast area.
Why?: To end World War II with a minimum of U.S. casualties and to send a message of U.S. power to the Soviet Union.
Results:
1) 90% of Hiroshima was destroyed.
2) 80,000 Japanese civilians were killed almost instantly and another 120,000 were killed from lingering injuries suffered that day.
3) After a second bomb was dropped on the Japanese city of Nagasaki two days later Japan surrendered unconditionally.
